Vosne-Romanée Aux Raignots
Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France
Located immediately above the famed Grand Cru of La Romanée, Aux Raignots (also known as Les Raignots) is a highly regarded Pinot Noir-producing Premier Cru in the Vosne-Romanée commune of the Côte de Nuits.
This intriguing climat did not receive much attention until the 1960s, when the Liger-Belair family purchased several parcels (around 45% of Aux Raignots is now owned by Louis-Michel Liger-Belair). An extremely rock site in one of the most elevated sections of the Côte de Nuits, it necessitated the use of dynamite to render its soil workable.
Nowadays, largely thanks to the influence of Louis-Michel Liger-Belair, Aux Raignots is respected as a source of some of the finest Pinot Noirs in the region. The 1.62ha vineyard’s thin, stony soil and cool mesoclimate tend to produce Pinot Noirs which are austere when young, but which offer considerable drinking pleasure after some years of cellaring.
