Vosne-Romanée

Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France

One of the most famous Pinot Noir-growing regions in the Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée (and neighbouring Flagey-Echezeaux) is home to 15 Premier Cru vineyards and six Grand Cru vineyards. Village wines account for 99ha of vineyard while Premier Cru and Grand Cru account for 56ha and 75ha, respectively. The geography and the geology of the area is subtly varied, but the vineyards are mostly fast-draining clay-limestone soils with pebbles and limestone scree comprising the thin upper layer. The Premier and Grand Cru sites naturally occupy the east or south-east facing slopes and tend to contain more limestone in the soils, marginally improving drainage.

Notable producers are almost too many to name, with some of the world's most famous domaines calling Vosne-Romanée their home. However three of the most highly regarded would surely be Domaine Emmanuel Rouget, Domaine du Prieuré Roch and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
