Ruchottes-Chambertin
Côte de Nutis, Burgundy, France
The modest 3ha vineyard of Ruchottes-Chambertin is one of nine Grands Crus within the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy. The vineyard is one of the most elevated in Gevrey and is split into three sections: Ruchottes du Bas (the lower part), Ruchottes du Dessus (the higher part) and Clos des Ruchottes – a monopole parcel in the higher section of the vineyard owned by Domaine Armand Rousseau.
Where Le Chambertin or Clos de Bèze produce Pinot Noirs with more power and structure, Ruchottes-Chambertin is a terroir known for elegance, fruit concentration and distinct minerality – this latter characteristic may have something to do with its name, ‘Ruchottes’, which in French means little rocks. The thin, stony soil of Ruchottes-Chambertin is a continuation of that found in Mazis-Chambertin.
