Latricières-Chambertin
Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France
Latricières-Chambertin is one of nine Grands Crus in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy. Located adjacent to the most celebrated Gevrey Grand Cru of them all, Le Chambertin, and sheltered by forest in its northern fringe, Latricières-Chambertin produces chiselled, elegant Pinot Noirs which remain somewhat overshadowed by the superstar bottlings of Gevrey’s most prestigious Grands Crus.
The terroir of Latricières-Chambertin is not homogenous: although in terms of geology, large sections of the vineyard are contiguous with the Grands Crus of Chambertin and Clos de Bèze. The vineyard is also one of the cooler sites in the Gevrey Grand Cru belt, meaning that its wines, while not lacking in complexity or elegance, may not have quite the same density or tannic structure of its illustrious neighbours. Latricières-Chambertin Pinot Noirs do however have profound appeal for Burgundy lovers, with particularly fine examples being produced by the likes of Domaine Leroy, Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux and Domaine Trapet.
