Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques
Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France
The 6.7ha Clos St Jacques is arguably Gevrey-Chambertin's most prestigious Premier Cru climat. Positioned at the foot of the Combe de Lavaux – a series of beautiful wooded limestone valleys and cliffs – this celebrated vineyard lies just to the south of the Gevrey Grand Cru of Les Cazetiers, at the same elevation as Chambertin, and many Burgundy Pinot aficionados would aver that it is deserving of the same Grand Cru status.
Clos St Jacques is planted on relatively steep, southeast-facing slopes of very rocky, gravelly clay-limestone soil. This exceptional terroir produces heady, full-bodied Pinots whose full magic is only revealed after several years of bottle age.
