Clos de Tart
Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France
Clos de Tart is an iconic Grand Cru monopole vineyard owned by the historic Domaine Clos de Tart and located in the Morey-Saint-Denis commune of the Côte de Nuits. With an unbroken history spanning 900 years – in all that time the vineyard has never been divided – this extraordinary cru was established by the Cistercian nuns of Tart Abbey in 1141. In 2017, the French company Groupe Artemis acquired the estate from its previous owners, the Mommessin family.
At 7.53ha Clos de Tart is the largest of Burgundy’s Grand Cru monopoles and occupies some of the most coveted terroir in Morey-Saint-Denis. The vineyard is located at the southern end of the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation, between Clos des Lambrays to the north and Bonnes-Mares to the south. The vineyard can be divided into 27 individual plots with six major sections, each with its own microterroir – although the predominant soil of the vineyard is well-drained marl and limestone scree.
