Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée
Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France
Not to be confused with the illustrious Grands Crus monopoles of Vosne-Romanée further north – nor indeed the Premier Cru of La Romanée in Gevrey-Chambertin – Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée is a well-respected Premier Cru for white wines from in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet.
This 3.4ha vineyard is located at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune. Its elevated site tends to fruity, floral Chardonnays, the best of which have very good ageing potential, even if some can be relatively low in acidity. Mounir Saouma of boutique Burgundy producer Lucien Le Moine has described the wines of La Romanée as the ‘most Puligny-like’ from Chassagne. Look out for examples from Vincent Dancer, Lucien Le Moine and Lamy-Caillat.
