Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes
Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France
Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes is the largest and, with Les Amoreuses, the most famous of Chambolle-Musigny’s 25 Premier Crus. Les Charmes is renowned for producing delicately structured, silken, aromatic Pinot Noirs with excellent cellaring potential. This is largely a consequence of the relatively low level of clay in the vineyard’s pebbly, alluvial soil.
Les Charmes is situated between the Grands Crus of Bonnes-Mares and Le Musigny, the lower section more or less adjacent to its ‘Grand Premier Cru’ neighbour, Les Amoureuses, sloping down towards Vougeot.
The silky elegance of the Pinot Noirs of this prized Premier Cru is exemplified in the wines Of Domaine Leroy (these are easily the most sought-after). There are many other fine examples, however, including those from Domaine Ponsot, Domaine Gérard-Mugneret, Domaine Amiot-Servelle and Domaine Hudelot-Baillet.
