Chablis Grand Cru Preuses

Chablis, Burgundy, France

Located just north of the town of Chablis on the northern end of the Grand Cru slope, Preuses (or Les Preuses) is one of the smallest Chablis Grand Crus. The 10.8ha vineyard has a south and southwest aspect which gives optimum exposure to sunlight in the cool Chablis climate. This makes the wines of Preuses among the roundest and most full-bodied of the Chablis Grands Crus, though they still retain a fine core of minerality typical of the Chardonnays from Chablis famous Kimmeridgian soil.

Notable producers with plots in this vineyard include Domaine Vincent Dauvissat, Lucien Le Moine and Domaine Faiveley. The name Preuses comes the Old French word ‘perreuse’, or ‘pierre’ – meaning stone and is thought to be a reference to the ancient Roman stone road which ran from Chablis to Maligny through the current site of the vineyard.
