Beaune Le Clos des Mouches
Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France
One of Beaune’s most highly respected Premiers Crus, Le Clos des Mouches is located between Corton Charlemagne, Pommard and Puligny-Montrachet, and is renowned for producing white and red wines of great finesse – Chardonnays that are rich and pithy with a fine core of limestone minerality; Pinots that are earthy and structured with a gently unfurling perfume.
The walled vineyard is mostly planted with Pinot Noir, although a significant proportion of the vineyard is also planted to Chardonnay. Chardonnay tends to be planted in the stony upper areas and Pinot Noir on the more clay-dominant mid-slope. By far the majority landowner in this 25ha vineyard is Joseph Drouhin, which owns 14ha. The remainder is owned by a variety of leading domaines and negociants.
