Cotes de Bourg
Located on the Right Bank of the River Dordogne and River Gironde, 35km north of Bordeaux, the Côtes de Bourg is one of the oldest appellations in Bordeaux and produces both red and white dry wines. A key appellation for the concentrated and age-worthy Merlot and Malbec grape varieties as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc for red wines. The red Malbec variety is particularly well suited to the soils of the Côtes de Bourg, and makes up 10% of red variety plantings, the highest percentage of Malbec grown in any Bordeaux appellation. For whites, look for aromatic blends of Sauvignon Blanc, Colombard, Sauvignon Gris, Sémillon and Muscadelle.
