The 2012 Figeac is really beginning to come into its own and entering a sweet spot. This is the best I`ve had. Now more open on the nose, it has a wonderful bouquet with black fruit, cedar and blood orange, perhaps still with a patina of new oak to be fully assimilated. The palate is very pure and well-defined, linear and "strict" in a Médoc manner, whereas previous bottles have more of a peacock`s tail. This just makes it more enticing. Tasted at the private room at Noble Rot Soho. - Neil Martin
Château Figeac was the only estate to be upgraded to Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the 2022 classification of Saint-Émilion. Owned by the Manoncourt family since 1892, this fine estate traces its history back to the Roman era. Today, the property spans approximately 40 hectares of vineyards, with the majority of the grapes going into the celebrated Grand Vin, a classic style of Saint-Émilion with wonderful texture and tannic power. The 2012 vintage is currently showing an intense nose, including lavender, fresh mushrooms, chocolate, black cherry and earthy undertones. The palate is softer and more primary dominated by blackcurrant with a touch of black cherry.
