Egon Muller Kanta Riesling 2015

HED58632 75cl 12%
Kanta is a brilliant Adelaide Hills Riesling made by the Mosel legend, Egon Müller. From the cool Echunga Vineyard, which sits at 410 metres above sea level, it is made in a bracingly dry and refreshing style. Still incredibly youthful at five years old it delivers incredible waves of tart apple, lemon, peach, dried flowers and slight hints of smoke, with pinpoint precision and finesse. This could easily age for another 3-5 years but would be superb now alongside fresh oysters or seafood.

Egon Muller

Broadly considered to make some of the greatest Rieslings in the world, the Egon Müller winery has been in the same family since 1797. Farming on the steep slopes of the Mosel valley, the estate owns around one third of the famous Scharzofberg vineyard, one of the region's greatest. That parcel includes three hectares of ungrafted vines - a rarity in any European grape growing region.

Extreme care is taken in the vineyard and all grapes are hand harvested. Fruit is pressed without any skin contact to preserve freshness and fermentation takes place in large, one thousand litre casks in cool cellars beneath the valley where they rest for around six months before bottling. The dry wines are clean and fresh with an unmistakable elegance while the sweeter wines (Spatlese, Auslese and TBA) offer a richness and depth of flavour that make them some of the greatest in Germany.
