Penderyn
A Modern Welsh Icon
Established in an idyllic location at the foothills of the Brecon Beacons in 2000, Penderyn released its first single malt whisky in 2004, becoming the first Walsh distillery to do so for more than a century.
Penderyn’s single malts are produced using a traditional pot still distillation process (Penderyn is the proud owner of a pair of Faraday copper pot stills) and come in both peated and unpeated styles. Initial maturation takes place in ex-Bourbon casks and finishing take place in Port, Sherry and Madeira casks, depending on the product line.
The Penderyn Gold series includes Madeira, Peated, Sherrywood, Portwood and Rich Oak iterations, while the Dragon series comprises Legend (Madeira finish), Myth (Bourbon finish) and Celt (Peated) single malts. The Icons of Wales series, meanwhile, comprises numbered special-edition malts produced to commemorate aspects of Welsh history or culture.
The year 2020 marked a period of expansion for Penderyn with the announcement of plans for a second distillery, this time in Llandudno. The Penderyn Llandudno Lloyd St Distillery opened in May 2021.
