Barbaresco Paje Roagna Half 2011

Roagna are one of the finest producers of Barbaresco and Pajé is amongst the most historic vineyards in the village. The fruit used for this wine comes from vines that are on average 40+ years in age and the winemaking is still exceptionally traditional with the harvested grapes undergoing an extended maceration and fermentation in large oak casks before the wine is barrel aged for approximately 5 years. This is a beautiful release with evocative aromas of wild strawberries, herbs, violet flowers and tar. On the palate it is firm with youthful tannins but exhibits superb mid-palate concentration and a finish of remarkable, mineral-infused length. Yet another unbelievably classy wine and a benchmark for the region.
