Urtaran Txakoli Goianea 2017

Bodegas Bat Gara was founded in 2012 by a priest, a restauranteur and a rancher, and is just one of seven wineries in the tiny 95-hectare appellation of Arabaka Txakolina, just south of Bilbao, which itself was only granted D.O status as recently as 2001. Urtaran is a blend of the local variety, Hondarrubi Zuri, with a splash of 5% Riesling. It is indigenous yeast fermented in chestnut barrels and French oak, followed by 8 months maturation on lees. A rich and ripe wine underpinned by vibrant acidity, this is an excellent wine to pair with herb-roasted chicken.
