An exciting orange wine from pioneering producer, Gravner, leading winemaker in the Collio Goriziano region, in north-eastern Italy, on the border with Slovenia. Produced from native Ribolla grapes which have been cultivated in the area for over 1000 years. Fermented in Georgian amphorae buried underground, the wine undergoes a long period of maceration with wild yeasts and no temperature control. After the drawing off and pressing phases, the wine sees at least five further months in amphorae prior to ageing in large oak barrels for six years. Bottled without fining or filtration. Amber in colour with natural cloudiness (due to it being unfiltered). Wonderful complexity of stone fruit, herbs, beeswax, dried fruits and dried flowers. Sumptuously rich and full-bodied on the palate, balanced by elegant freshness, mineral and tobacco smoke notes. Showcasing a huge breadth of fruits (orange marmalade, apricots, lemon, orchard fruits), as well as floral and herbal notes. Concluding on an incredibly long finish with firm tannic structure and satisfying grip. Serve slightly chilled and allow to breathe for a few minutes ahead of serving.
