1995 marked the first year in which Michael and Anabelle Waugh of Greenock Creek released a Shiraz from their newly acquired Roennfeldt Road property. Incredibly early on, the critical reception of the wines from this 130-year-old vineyard was remarkable, with the inaugural release earning 100 points from the then massively influential wine writer, Robert Parker Jr.
The 1996 release also attained the top accolade from Parker, with him describing it as “fabulously concentrated and tremendously pure, with layer upon layer of flavours that unfold incrementally”. This is a wonderful mature example of a Barossa icon that should now be approaching its peak.
