Laurent and Dominique Courbis own 50 acres in St Joseph and 20 acres in Cornas, from which they produce a range of classically styled but exceptionally high-quality wines. This particular Cornas comes from a 1.5-hectare lieu-dit called La Sabarotte which is planted on pure granitic soils. The 2013 is a wonderfully full-bodied, textural and multi-layered release, offering up delicious notes of plummy fruit, game and cracked black pepper, with a distinctive crushed stone minerality. A superb wine with at least 10 years of potential evolution if cellared.
