Though the estate dates back to the mid-19th Century, Domaine Jacques Prieur was officially created in 1956. It is today owned by Edouard Labruyère who oversees the estate’s meticulously maintained vineyards and the production of exquisite wines from some of the greatest sites in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits.
Undoubtedly one of Prieur’s flagship wines, this is produced from a 0.49ha plot of the revered Chambertin Grand Cru. The fruit was hand-harvested and entirely destemmed, undergoing fermentation in open oak vats with moderate pigeage and maturation in oak barrels for 18 months. The 2017 is a broad-shouldered and youthfully firm release yet shows glimpses of beautiful aromatic complexity and subtle mineral depth. This is certainly one for the darker recesses of the cellar.
