Muscadelle

Muscadelle is a white grape primarily grown in the Bordeaux region of south west France. Whilst the grape is genetically unrelated to Muscat, it shares many of the same characteristics when it comes to flavour and aroma - gentle notes of grape juice, raisins, ripe melon and honey. When it comes to winemaking, the grape is most famously blended with Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc in the sweet wines of Sauternes and Barsac, although rarely at a proportion greater than 10%. The wines of Monbazillac, in the Dordogne, use the grape more extensively where it can sometimes account for over a quarter of the final blend.
