Though primarily known for the quality of their Zinfandel, Ravenswood Winery was also one of the first Californian producers to bottle singular varietal Merlot. Gregory is a 10-acre vineyard southeast of Sonoma that was first planted with Cabernet in 1945, but latterly also with Merlot in 1983. From 1987, Ravenswood began using fruit from this site to craft slightly lighter and more elegant wines. Now perfectly mature, this would be delicious to drink alongside aged hard cheeses.
