Château Mouton Rothschild 1989 is a mature First Growth Bordeaux from the one of the most illustrious names in Pauillac. Established in 1853 by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, Château Mouton Rothschild pioneered the idea of estate bottling in the 1920s while other properties were still selling and exporting in barrel. Cabernet Sauvignon always predominates in the Mouton red, giving the wine its rich tannins, wealth of aroma, flavour and superb ageing capacity. Meanwhile Merlot brings suppleness, roundness and exceptional length. The 1989 vintage presented almost ideal conditions for vignerons across Bordeaux, with warm and sunny weather resulting in the century’s earliest harvest. Now in its peak drinking phase, this is a rounded and generous blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot. A more understated wine from a decade that included some superstar releases from this illustrious 1st Growth estate.
