1946 was a vintage saved by an Indian summer after a relatively inauspicious start to the growing season and the wine of then classified Second Growth Château Mouton Rothschild is widely regarded as one of the standouts. The 1946 label was designed by Victor Hugo’s great-grandson, Jean Hugo, who used the biblical story of the dove returning to the Ark after the Great Flood as a symbol of the first year of peace in Europe.
