When considering which Burgundy cru is the greatest for white wine, Montrachet stands alone in terms of quality, complexity and longevity. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s holdings consist of three parcels in the Le Montrachet lieu-dit in Chassagne-Montrachet, totalling just 0.68 hectares surface area with vines that are, on average, 50 years of age. Of the eight Grand Cru wines that DRC makes, this has the smallest production and is, therefore, often the rarest bottling.
The 2005 Montrachet received the highly coveted 100 point score from Wine Spectator, with the following review, `Exotic scents of apricot, pineapple, citronella and honey are still marked by oak. On the palate, this is rich and creamy, almost massive, but unfolds in waves, with fine structure and a long mineral finish.`
