Mas de Daumas Gassac produced their first vintage in 1978 and are recognised as one of the leading lights in the Pays d’Hérault department of the Languedoc-Roussillon. The 2017 Rouge is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon plus 20 other varieties from the Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert appellation, fermented in stainless steel and matured in old oak barrels for around 1 year. It is medium- to full-bodied, rich and satiny smooth, boasting delicious notes of blackcurrant, black cherry, spices and wild herbs. This will benefit from further cellaring but, if consumed young, drink alongside food, particularly game such as wild boar or venison.
