Marcassin was established in 1991 by the legendary winemaker, Helen Turley. An incredibly influential figure on the Californian wine scene over the last 30 years, she has either made the wine or consulted for some of the region’s greatest wineries, including Peter Michael, Colgin and Bryant.
2001 marked the final vintage of the Upper Barn Vineyard Chardonnay (formerly known as Gauer Ranch) from Alexander Mountain in the Alexander Valley. Robert Parker described it in The Wine Advocate as having “plenty of tropical fruit, lemon butter, crème brûlée and a hint of caramel.” Of the Marcassin range this is perhaps the richest and earliest drinking cuvée.
