Second Growth
Bordeaux, France
Château Léoville-Barton is a Second Growth wine estate in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux. This quintessential claret is produced mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller proportions of Merlot, and typically matured in 50% new oak for 18 months. This release is the 2009 vintage of its Grand Vin, a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22.5% Merlot and 0.5% Cabernet Franc. The 2009 vintage in Bordeaux is widely regarded as one of the best in recent history. The weather conditions were ideal for grape growing, with a long, hot summer and a mild autumn. The wines from this year are full-bodied and powerful, with ripe fruit flavours and good acidity. They are also well-balanced and have the potential to age for many years.
