Contino Gran Reserva 300cl 2011

Viñedos Contino is widely considered one of the key producers of the Rioja wine revolution and has energetically championed the ‘château’ concept in the region whereby wines are made from a single estate. The 2011 Gran Reserva was only bottled in magnums or larger formats and is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 15% Graciano, 12% Garnacha and 3% white variety Viura, aged in seasoned oak for three years followed by a further three years in bottle. It is rich, ripe and hedonistic, reflective of the warm vintage, but has admirable freshness and generous tannic framework. A classically styled yet superbly well executed Rioja that is ready to drink but will happily continue to evolve over the next decade.
