Aalto PS 2017

Aalto has only existed since 1999, however, with Mariano Garcia (Vega Sicilia winemaker for 30 years) at the helm the winery has gone from strength to strength and is now one of the most highly regarded producers in the Ribera del Duero region. PS is strictly limited to 20,000 bottles per year and is produced from selected plots of old Tempranillo vines (60- to 100-years-old) in the prime sub-regions of La Horra and La Aguilera. The 2017 is wonderfully flamboyant but extremely powerful. It is black-fruited, spicy and smoky with plentiful tannins and prominent oak character. This will certainly need a few years in the cellar but will be well worth the wait.
