 Screaming Eagle is perhaps the most famous California Cult winery of all time and produces one of the most sought-after wines in the world. Sourced from a small, 57-acre vineyard in Oakville, Napa, production of this exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend is supremely limited and older vintages are increasingly rare. 2007 was an exceptional vintage in California and this release has earned a perfect 100-point score from The Wine Advocate on four occasions. This is about as great as Californian Cabernet gets and should continue to improve for the next 10-20 years.

 Château Figeac 2020 is a Right Bank Bordeaux red wine produced in the St-Émilion appellation. Owned by the Manoncourt family since 1892, this fine estate traces its history back to the Roman era. Today the property spans 40ha of vineyards, with the majority of the grapes going into the celebrated first wine of the estate, Château Figeac, a classic style of Saint-Émilion with wonderful texture and tannic power. A small amount of the second wine, Le Petit Figeac is also produced. "The 2020 Figeac was bottled in mid-July. It has an exquisite bouquet that unfolds effortlessly in the glass with blackberry, crushed stone, graphite and fresh fig scents. It blossoms with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly edgy tannins on the entry that frame the pure black fruit. It`s very harmonious and silky smooth in texture that almost disguises what Frédéric Faye terms the `verticality` of the wine. Fresh and saline on the finish with just a light black pepper touch on the aftertaste. An absolute treat." Neal Martin, 2023

At the dawn of the 1986 harvests, after half a decade of success, the winemakers and wine enthusiasts were sceptical of yet another fine vintage. Yet a fine vintage it was. Excellent spring weather followed by a dry summer with occasional light rain, led to a very abundant high-quality yield. The 1986 vintage is very concentrated without being heavy, with distinguished, dominant tannins.

 Château Latour is classified First Growth and is one of the oldest wine producing properties in the appellation of Pauillac, with a history dating back to the 14th Century. The 2003 vintage was notable for its extremely warm temperatures and the red wines from Bordeaux had remarkable levels of fruit intensity and opulence. Composed of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, this is immensely full-bodied, rich and flamboyant, with wonderful layers of sweet black fruits, spices and stoney minerality. For all its decadence and heft, it is remarkably well-balanced and never over the top.

 With family history dating back centuries and ownership of some of the best parcels of vines in the Northern Rhône, Jean Louis Chave is undoubtedly one of the greatest producers of Hermitage Rouge and Blanc. As one of the largest landowners in the Hermitage appellation Chave has vines spread across 9 of the finest lieux-dits, with the Rouge being sourced from vines ranging between 50 and 85+ years of age. 2009 was an exceptional vintage for the region and this release certainly ranks amongst Chave’s best. It is extraordinarily powerful and intense but displays immaculate balance and remarkable precision. Coy at first but with aeration it unwinds to show brilliantly complex notes of dark fruits, spices, anise, woodsmoke and roasted meats, alongside subtle mineral accents of tilled earth and stones.

It is an exceptionally long-lived wine and can often require significant cellaring before reaching maturity and expressing its true essence.

The 1990 vintage presented an incredible follow-up to the highly acclaimed 1989 and can certainly be considered amongst the greatest ever releases from Petrus. With more concentration, richness and structure, this can probably be expected to outlive the 1989 but should be superb for drinking now.

 Latour 2010 is regarded as one of the best Bordeaux wines of the 21st century so far, and has received two 100-point Decanter scores in the past three years. It is a blend of 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8.5% Merlot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc and 0.5% Petit Verdot with 14.4% ABV. The nose is incredibly nuanced, suggesting aromas of black currants, Cuban cigars, herbs, floral and maritime elements. On the palate, the wine coats your mouth with powerful layers of creamy, regal fruits with a touch of sea salt. Very enjoyable now but another decade in the bottle will create an even more complex tasting experience.
