The 2001 Château d’Yquem is undoubtedly one of the greatest Sauternes ever made and has near limitless potential longevity. It is kaleidoscopically complex and incredibly powerful, with simply staggering balance, precision and detail. On the nose it is utterly beguiling, offering intricate layers of honeyed stone fruits, citrus peel, almond paste, crème brûlée, toasted nuts and liquidised stones. The palate achieves levels of richness and intensity very rarely possible, with laserlike acidity providing remarkable levity and drive through to the brilliantly long, multi-layered finish. Since the 17th Century, the Grand Vin of Château Margaux has been recognised as being one of the greatest wines in the entire world. 1996 was an exceptionally late harvest and, though of high quality, produced incredibly powerful, muscular and long-lived wines. Composed of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, this is an incredibly complex wine really only just beginning to hit its stride. It has immense layers of deeply concentrated fruits, superb mineral tension and fine, lacy tannins, with an extraordinarily long finish of outstanding precision and freshness. Perhaps one of the most complete expressions of Margaux ever released.

Château Pavie is one of the finest wine producing estates in St-Émilion. A monumental wine and undoubtedly one of the best the château has ever produced. Dark, intense, ruby-red colour, a very fresh nose, with lots of very ripe, juicy berry fruit as well as refined toasty notes. The 2000 vintage shows us that a strong oak influence marries very well with Pavie`s fruit in full-bodied vintages. 2000 Pavie is very smooth and suave on the palate with a great balance between tannin and acidity. The mouthfeel is wonderfully velvety. Concluding on a long and spicy finish, with a hint of cocoa.

Sassicaia 2021

Sassicaia 2021

HED96584

75 cl

£325.00
Sassicaia 2021 is a full-bodied Supertuscan red wine produced in the Bolgheri sub-region of Tuscany in central Italy. Sassicaia is the flagship of Tenuta San Guido and an icon of Italian wine. The super-concentrated 2021 vintage (a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc) is the finest of recent years and a 100-point wine for several leading critics. "Here it is. A quintessential Sassicaia that represents the excellence of the vintage and also respects the unique taste profile of this distinguished Tuscan blend of Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc. The Tenuta San Guido 2021 Bolgheri Sassicaia offers impeccable balance, excellent freshness and absolutely no signs of over-ripeness. The fruit balance is ideal with a hint of crunch and lasting tension from pulp and skins. The tannins are deftly managed with firm grip and enough velvetiness to add volume and length. There is no greenness on the bouquet that instead offers mulled herbs and spice, with cinnamon and clove, layered delicately between mostly red and some purple berry fruits. Redcurrant, blueberry, sweet pomegranate and Rainier cherry run strong in this vintage. A fragrant hint of heritage rose emerges with time. The oak tones are geared toward gingerbread, hazelnut, cigar, sandalwood and something like a grilled sweet red pepper. To the palate, it offers nice weight with no heavy glycerin, and a rinse of acidity that adds to the wine’s natural energy, brightness and viscosity. That marked freshness opens the wine up to long aging potential, but you still need to give it more time in bottle." Wine Advocate, 2024

Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova Casanova di Neri 2010

Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova Casanova di Neri 2010

HED94181

£240.00
Tenuta Nuova Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino 2010 is a mature, full-bodied red wine produced from Sangiovese grapes in the Brunello di Montalcino appellation of Tuscany. Tenuta Nuova means `new property` and this forward-thinking winery is just that. The property has been established after extensive research into vineyard site, clonal and rootstock selection, cultivation practices and plant density in order to produce powerful yet drinkable Brunello wines with good ageing potential. The property has quickly established a reputation for producing some of the finest Sangiovese in the Brunello appellation – with the 100-point scores to prove it. "Giacomo Neri has produced one of the two 100-point wines I discovered in my tasting of 2010 Brunello di Montalcino. He is not new to triple-digit wine scores and I had given one to him before for the 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto. I mention that because it is important to underline the impressive consistency in quality achieved by Casanova di Neri. Only a handful of Italian wineries can claim this distinction. His newest release from the exceptional Tenuta Nuova vineyard cru is a wine of soaring intensity, beauty and perfection. It`s one of those wines you can`t put down until the contents of the bottle have sadly dwindled to the final drops of precious liquid. The style is bold and opulent and the 2010 vintage is especially nuanced with the subtle beauty that only Sangiovese can display." Monica Larner, 2015

Fontodi have really triumphed with the 2016 Flaccianello. This is future legend in the making. Great value for a wine of this quality. Ripe, with mulberry, plum, black cherry, mineral and spice flavors, this red is both lush and firmly structured. Complex, well-defined and persistent, courtesy of the racy acidity. A real special occasion wine.
