£185.00
Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes 2007 is a full-bodied red wine from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation of the southern Rhône Valley. By European standards Domaine Janasse is a relative newcomer having only been established in 1973 but in a short space of time has come to be recognised as one of the highest quality producers of modern style Châteauneuf-du-Pape. "With an inky purple colour, the wine has unctuous texture, a gorgeous nose of créme de cassis, blackberry, licoricey and a touch of Provençal herbs and beef blood. It is beginning to show evolution, but the incredible texture - like a compressed skyscraper in the mouth – and its amazing ethereal qualities and lightness on its feet (despite its enormous size and richness) is something to behold. It is a masterpiece of modern-day Châteauneuf du Pape that should continue to drink well for another 20+ years." 100 points, Robert Parker, 2016

£275.00
Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Deus Ex Machina 2005 is a full-bodied, single-vineyard red wine from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation of the Southern Rhône Valley. Clos Saint Jean is run by brothers Vincent and Pascal Maurel and is considered amongst the very finest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with the majority of their vineyards located in the iconic sub-zone of Le Crau. The supremely limited production Deus Ex Machina is a blend of 70-to-100-year-old-vine Grenache (60%) and Mourvèdre (40%) and is generally the most powerful of all their cuvées. Best approached after around 10-15 years of age, the sublime 2017 release will almost certainly reward those with the patience. "I’ve been lucky enough to have the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Deus ex Machina numerous times over the past year, and while still youthful, it’s starting to shows hints of evolution and secondary nuances. Cassis, crushed rocks, graphite, beef blood and iron-like aromas and flavors are all present here, and it offers incredible depth and richness on the palate, with gorgeous purity, masses of tannin and a rock-star finish. A wine that could make you run out of adjectives, it too is another wine that goes flying off the scale." 100 points, Wine Advocate, 2014

Shafer Vineyards is a top-tier winery in the Stags Leap District, renowned for its highly regarded and consistently exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon bottlings. The Hillside Select is Shafer`s flagship wine, sourced from sunny, rugged hillside vineyard blocks which result in particularly intense fruit. "The 2001 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is the first of these back-to-back perfect wines from Shafer that, at age 13, is still a baby, but, wow, what an amazing wine. A fabulous growing season produced a wine with inky/purple black color, stunning crème de cassis notes, with additional hints of lead pencil shavings, spring flowers, cedar wood and forest floor. It is full-bodied, sensationally concentrated, with a seamless integration of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol. This is a great, monumental Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that is still an infant, at age 13, going on 14. This has got at least three decades of life left in it..." 100 points, Robert Parker, 2014

"2004 was a perfect climate year. This is a developed white that was matured in well-seasoned, neutral American oak barrels for 10 years in their old caves, where the wine gets pungent aromas of mushrooms, pollen, beeswax, white pepper, kerosene, cereals and something herbal (celery and even asparagus) that reminded me of the 1964. The palate is velvety and dry and super tasty, with a salty twist in the finish. It`s still a baby even after years in bottle. This should age superbly in bottle. I think this is slightly better than the 2001, one of the freshest and most elegant vintages for this bottling. Bravo!" - Luis Gutierrez (Wine Advocate)
