Sine Qua Non was officially founded in 1994 by Manfred and Elaine Krankl and rapidly garnered remarkable critical acclaim for their incredibly limited production wines made from classical Rhône Valley varieties. `Non Aperta` is a fascinating blend of 38% Chardonnay 25% Viognier 22% Roussanne 9% Muscat 6% Petit Manseng. Delightfully balanced, expect ripe melon and honeysuckle, stone fruits and toasty notes, with gloriously refreshing acidity. Pure delight for the true hedonist.

The 2018 Aperta is a gorgeous wine. Rich, bold and luscious, the Aperta captivates all the senses with its intense flavors and sheer presence. Ripe apricot, honey, mint and dried almonds fill out the layers effortlessly. In 2018, Elaine and Manfred Krankl made the decision to give their white a bit more time in barrel, a decision that paid off handsomely. Aperta is 38% Chardonnay, 25% Viognier, 22% Roussanne, 9% Muscat and 6% Petit Manseng, mostly from Eleven Confessions and Bien Nacido.Antonio Galloni1st October 2021

Art and Fine Wine Collide

The wines of Sine Qua Non need little introduction. Mould breaking, iconoclastic, visionary are just some of the descriptors invoked when critics and wine lovers discuss this unique winery. Based in Ventura, north of LA, the wines of Sine Qua Non regularly notch up perfect scores from critics while the waiting list for a direct allocation is well over ten years.

Founded by Manfred and Elaine Krankl in the early 1990s, the duo swiftly gained attention from wine lovers and critics for their superb Rhône blend wines, quirky labels and uncompromising approach in the vineyard and cellar. The winery has experimented with producing Oregon Pinot Noir, dessert wines and an array of quirky single varietal reds and whites, but generally revert to producing the wines for which they are most famous - Grenache and Syrah. The wines are generally big and bold, but those who like things cranked up to eleven should look no further than Manfred's "extended barrel ageing" program.
