Situated on the Napa Valley floor, the Carneros AVA has a reputation for early-ripening Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Look to the beautiful old vine Chardonnays from Aubert’s Hudson Vineyard or to the exciting Hyde de Villaine Chardonnay – the result of a collaboration between the Hyde Family of Napa Valley and the de Villaine Family of Burgundy. For Pinot Noir, turn to the juicy, medium-bodied examples from Cuvaison or the minimal intervention, whole cluster Benevolent Neglect Syrah from Matt Nagy and Ben Brenner.
