The Aubert Larry Hyde & Sons Chardonnay 2008 originates from the renowned Hyde vineyard in Carneros, known for its exceptional terroir. This vintage exhibits a bouquet of ripe stone fruits alongside hints of citrus and melon. On the palate, the wine presents a layered texture, showcasing a balance of richness and minerality. The acidity provides structure, allowing the complex fruit and mineral notes to unfold gradually.

(15.8% alcohol; from four-year-old vines) Hazy appearance. Aromas of dried citrus peel, linden tea and hazelnut, with more vibrant notes of lemon zest and ginger emerging with aeration. Dense, strong and aromatic, with penetrating acidity buffered on the back end by a saline impression of extract. The youthful tartness and phenolic impression of this wine actually reminded me of a young Corton-Charlemagne, but this wine will require patience.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2010

Aubert

Sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000, located on the famous Silverado trail in Calistoga. Before he and his partner opened Aubert, Mark had gained experience at the Peter Michael Winery and Colgin Cellars and also made wine at a 'custom crush' facility in California. Aubert have some proprietary vineyards, around three and half acres in Sonoma, which they bottle under the 'UV' label. The remainder of the fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Sonoma and Napa.

In the world of wine, Aubert is really a byword for world-class single vineyard or single block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards they source from represent a mix of terroirs and include some old vines as well as some recent plantings. What remains consistent through all these bottlings is the preservation of fruit character and an extreme obsession with quality.
