 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée da Capo 2007 from Domaine du Pégau is a powerful red wine produced from old-vine parcels across the appellation. The hot, dry summer yielded small berries and high concentration, reflected in the wine’s dense aromas of black cherry, garrigue herbs and cured meat. The palate is broad and layered, with ripe tannins supporting dark fruit and spice. Extended ageing in large oak foudres has integrated the components without masking the wine’s natural warmth.  Vérité was founded in 1997 by the late visionary Jess Jackson and long-time Bordeaux vigneron, Pierre Seillan. In just over 20 years, the winery has managed to forge a reputation for itself as one of the most consistent producers of elite level fine wine in California. They produce just three wines, La Muse, La Joie and Le Désir, all of which are based on the traditional varieties of Bordeaux.

La Muse is an ode to Merlot and is inspired by the rich and powerful, yet incredibly refined wines of Pomerol. Though hard to believe given the extraordinary quality of the 2013, this is an effort that will at least rival, if not better, it in years to come. The 2014 is a stunning blend composed of 87% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec.

 Château Troplong Mondot 2005 is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard sits on deep limestone deposits covered by thick layers of clay and flint, which provided crucial water reserves during the dry, hot 2005 growing season. This wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged in 100% new French oak, reflecting the powerful, modern style of the Valette-Parienté era. The larger format of the magnum has allowed the wine to evolve at a slower pace, preserving the vibrancy of its dark berry fruit. It is a full-bodied, robust wine with flavours of blackberry, espresso and crushed stones, defined by a massive tannic structure and a long, warming finish.

La Joie is made in the mould of the great wines of Pauillac and the Left Bank. 2007 was an incredible vintage and is particularly memorable for the fact that each cuvée has scored 100 points from The Wine Advocate. La Joie is an intense and powerful blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and 4% Malbec.

 A 300cl double magnum from Château Angélus, the 2014 vintage represents the estate`s dedication to both Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with a balanced split of 50% each. Located in the Saint-Émilion appellation, the winery is renowned for its rich history and recognition as a Premier Grand Cru Classé A. The growing season observed a cool summer followed by an extended warm autumn, facilitating the advancement of Cabernet Franc`s ripening. This wine, exhibiting an alcohol content of 13.5%, underwent ageing in 100% new French oak barriques. It presents characteristics of blackberries, blue flowers, and hints of toasted vanilla. The larger format promises a more gradual evolution of its complex, earthy notes, emblematic of the Hubert de Boüard stewardship.

 Having only been a Denominación de Origen since 1989, Bierzo is a relatively new wine appellation but it is blessed with some remarkable old vineyards. It was these that attracted the legendary Priorat winemaker, Álvaro Palacios, to the region. Alongside his nephew, Ricardo Pérez, he founded Descendientes de J. Palacios in 1998, and together they have rapidly gained an incredible reputation for their fragrant and elegant wines made from the local red variety, Mencia.
