Château Lafite Rothschild 2003 is a First Growth red wine from Pauillac in Bordeaux. This double magnum displays aromas of graphite, cedar and blackcurrant, leading into a full palate with a broad texture and an alcohol level of 12.9%. Such concentration is a direct result of a historic heatwave, though the estate`s deep gravel soils and proximity to the Gironde estuary helped maintain balance in the vines. Winemaking involved a shorter maceration than usual to manage tannin extraction from the ripe fruit. The blend consists of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.

The site is characterised by its granitic soils and south-facing orientation, which yields a wine of profound intensity and dark-fruited concentration. Voge’s traditional winemaking, including ageing in 228-litre barrels for 24 months, allows the savoury and mineral aspects of Cornas to shine. It displays a powerful profile of blackberry, olives, scorched earth and iron-like tannins that frame the long, muscular palate.

Colgin Tychson Hill 2015 is a Cabernet Sauvignon from an historic vineyard on the northern tip of the Napa Valley. Planted on soils of weathered volcanic rock and iron-red stones, this vineyard was originally planted in the 19th century by Josephine Tychson - the first woman to build a winery in the Napa Valley. The vineyard was replanted with with heritage clones of Cabernet Sauvignon in the mid 1990s by Ann Colgin. Full-bodied yet supremely elegant and with a seductive Cabernet perfume, this is still a young wine, but is nevertheless expressive and vibrant, with layers of sweetly spiced black fruit, earth and lavender-like balsamic notes. A wine to enjoy now or to cellar for another two decades.

Created in 1994 by Manfred and Elaine Krankl, Sine Qua Non is probably the most famous of all the California cult wineries and is renowned for exceptionally limited quantities of wines made from the classic Rhône Valley varieties. The 2010 Stockholm Syndrome Syrah and Grenache releases were both produced from the estate-owned Eleven Confessions vineyard and are part of the Extended Barrel-Aged series, having spent 30-40 months in oak barriques. This is a blend of 96% Syrah, 3% Viognier and 1% Roussanne.

Tracing its history back to 1234, Château Lafite Rothschild is an iconic First Growth property spanning 110 hectares in Pauillac. Château Lafite Rothschild produces a legendary eponymous first wine showcasing beautiful aromatics and an extraordinary capacity to age. The 2010 was a 100-point wine for several leading critics and is available here in magnum format. "This vintage featured a cold winter and cool weather at flowering, followed by a dry summer with a hot July and warm days and cool nights in August and September. The season delivered a wine with an inky dark colour and bright aromas of blackcurrant and spice with a distinctive floral edge. The texture is lively and crisp, with plenty of freshness, firm tannins, and impressive length. This wine will be best after another 10 years in bottle and will easily last 50 years beyond that. This superb, vibrant wine is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot with no Cabernet Franc or Petit Verdot in the grand vin." 100 points, Clive Coates MW, 2022
