The 2013 is a 100-point follow-up to the equally adjudged perfection of 2012. Built with the same remarkable intensity of fruit, impeccable balance and sensational complexity, perhaps this just has an extra level of structural fibre which may require a little longer in the cellar to soften.

Vérité was founded in 1997 by the late visionary Jess Jackson and long-time Bordeaux vigneron, Pierre Seillan. In just over 20 years, the winery has managed to forge a reputation for itself as one of the most consistent producers of elite level fine wine from Sonoma County, California. They produce just three wines - La Muse, La Joie and Le Désir - all of which are based on the traditional varieties of Bordeaux.

La Joie is made in the mould of the great wines of Pauillac and the Left Bank. The 2013 vintage was utterly sublime and this is a rich, complex and creamy blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Drink now until 2065.

Le Supplement from the incredible 2013 vintage is a blend of 89% Syrah, 6% Petite Sirah, 3% Grenache and 2% Viognier sourced solely from the 11 Confessions Estate Vineyard. This is an extraordinarily complex release with incredible purity of fruit and endless savoury intrigue. Though early-drinking appeal is often a hallmark of Sine Qua Non, cellaring is of great benefit and often brings forth wonderful additional layers of complexity.
