Peter Michael Cuvée Indigène Chardonnay 2012 is a structured, single-vineyard Chardonnay from the Knights Valley AVA. With grapes sourced from estate vineyards high on the western slopes of Mount St Helena, the wine benefits from the site’s volcanic and rocky soils. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied and precise, built around a tense, linear structure and a commanding acidity that successfully carries the weight from full malolactic conversion and barrel ageing, showcasing integration and poise over overt opulence.

Light gold. Deep, intense aromas of poached pear, nectarine and jasmine, along with a powerful mineral element. Deeply concentrated orchard and citrus fruit flavors pick up notes of vanilla and candied fig with air, along with a refreshing kick of chalky minerality. Plush and expansive but also energetic and precise, finishing with outstanding power and stony persistence.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2014

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
