Established in 1808, Maison Chapoutier is one of the biggest names in the Rhône Valley and makes excellent quality wines from pretty much every major appellation. La Mordoree was first produced in 1990 and is 100% Syrah sourced from 5 hectares of old vines located in some of the best parcels of the iconic Côte Blonde and Côte Brune. Just 400 cases of the 1991 were produced, the year that biodynamic principles began to be employed, and it has twice scored a perfect 100-points from Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate.
90 Vinous
Deep, young red-ruby color. Sexy aromas of smoky oak and coffee grounds. Thick, sweet and chewy, with strong extract and a deep raspberry flavor. The rather lush tannins show a slight dryness. Finishing notes of woodsmoke and pepper. Comes across as ripe and oaky, but somewhat heavy.Stephen Tanzer1st November 1998

Passion and Drive

One of the oldest producers in the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier was established in 1808. The arrival of a young Michel Chapoutier, who took over management of the family domaine in 1990, saw huge changes and a renewed drive for excellence, focussing especially on the diverse terroir of the Rhône. Michel has embraced biodynamic practices in recent years and attributes much of the increase in quality to this approach. The wines are generous and fruit-forward at the entry level, moving towards the sublime as we move up the quality ladder.

Two of the greatest wines in the portfolio are 'De L'Orée', an Hermitage Blanc made from 100% Marsanne and 'Le Pavillon', a full-bodied, expressive Hermitage rouge that effortlessly rubs shoulders with the world's greatest Syrah.
