Domaine Sylvain Cathiard Nuits St Georges Aux Murgers 2009 is a full-bodied red Burgundy from the Premier Cru climat of Aux Mugers in the Nuits St Georges commune of the Côte de Nuits. Domaine Sylvain Cathiard is a boutique wine producer situated in the village of Vosne-Romanée. Sylvain’s son Sébastien has been fully in charge since 2011, overseeing the family’s five hectares of vines spread between Vosne-Romanée, Nuit-Saint-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny. This release hails from Aux Murgers, a Premier Cru situated at the northern end of the Nuits-Saint-Georges commune, planted exclusively to Pinot Noir. "Do I need to tell you how much I adore Sylvain Cathiard’s wines? This is a seriously good quality producer of Vosne-Romanée, one whose star is in the ascendant. These are gloriously silky smooth, complex wines; not just with the top Premier Crus but down to the generic Burgundy. It’s the intensity and focus that set Cathiard apart, wines with supreme definition and purity that seduce the palate like a beautiful courtesan. I would love to taste his Grand Crus, but they are incredibly rare and sought-after. This producer comes highly recommended from top to bottom.” Neal Martin

(from 66-year-old vines) Good full red. Wild red fruits and smoky minerals on the nose, with a sweet oak component adding complexity. Creamy-sweet and very concentrated, offering superb chewy texture without heaviness. Strong millerande character here. Finishes very sweet, with the breadth and length of a grand cru and subtle smoky minerality.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2011

65-year-old vines. Bright crimson with some real depth as well as the sweetness. I’m convinced this one will last. Perfume, lift and sap with just the slightest hint of oak. Real life and structure. There was lots of millerandage in this parcel below Perrot Minot’s and not far from Vosne Malconsorts. (JR)

This small, family run domaine was first established in the commune of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy by Sylvain Cathiard’s grandfather. Since 2011, following the retirement of Sylvain, the domaine has been run by Sylvain's son, Sébastien Cathiard. Famed for the superb quality Pinot Noir it produces, the domaine has vineyard holdings across Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-St-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny, in addition to tiny holdings in Clos Vougeot and Romanée-St-Vivant.
