Vintage 2000

In Burgundy, an uneven though generally favourable 2000 produced good quality whites and reds. With the notable exception of reds from the top crus of the Côte de Nuits, however, most will now be on a downward trajectory.

In Piedmont, a prolonged heatwave as harvest approached helped to produce a good crop of ripe, full-bodied and ageworthy Barolos and Barbarescos. Port producers enjoyed an excellent 2000 – possibly the best since 1994 – with most quintas declaring a vintage. Tokaji sweet wines from 2000 were also of high quality.
