Vérité was founded in 1997 by the late visionary Jess Jackson and long-time Bordeaux vigneron, Pierre Seillan. In just over 20 years, the winery has managed to forge a reputation for itself as one of the most consistent producers of elite level fine wine in California. They produce just three wines, La Muse, La Joie and Le Désir, all of which are based on the traditional varieties of Bordeaux.

La Joie is made in the mould of the great wines of Pauillac and the Left Bank. The 2008 is a sophisticated, elegant and powerfully driven blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec.

94 Vinous
(14.3% alcohol): Saturated ruby-red. Slightly medicinal aromas of black cherry, tar, licorice, menthol, tobacco leaf and dark chocolate. The sweetest of this trio of '08s on entry, then firm acidity kicks in to keep the fine-grained black cherry, blackberry, mineral and leafy flavors under wraps today. Quite light on its feet and wonderfully energetic in the way of a tightly coiled spring, even if it's not yet showing the texture of the Vérité Right Bank blends. Finishes classically dry and very long, with some medicinal reserve and a firm tannic spine to ensure a very long life in bottle. Stephen Tanzer1st May 2018

Bordeaux via Sonoma County

A true visionary, Jess Jackson’s lengthy career, which spanned more than 30 years, was driven by a passion for producing extraordinary wine from California’s best vineyards. Jackson had longed to create a wine that would be just as good as the world’s best wines and was confident that the terroir in Sonoma County had that potential. Teaming up with Bordeaux winemaker Pierre Seillan, the duo created Vérité - a project with the aim of making some of the world's greatest Cabernet Sauvignon.

As Pierre approaches retirement, the reins are being passed to his daughter Hélène Seillan, who grew up in Sonoma County and Saint-Émilion, studying Viticulture and Oneology at the Institut Rural de Vayres in Bordeaux. Hélène is set to build on the work of her father and Jess Jackson - crafting Bordeaux-inspired Cabernet with poise and precision.
