Gaja Sori San Lorenzo 2007 is a full-bodied, single-vineyard Nebbiolo red wine from the Barbaresco appellation of Piedmont, northern Italy. Renowned for being the most powerful and structured of Gaja`s three single-vineyard Barbarescos, Sori San Lorenzo is an intense, brooding and exceptionally long-lived Nebbiolo which bears easy comparison with the wines of neighbouring Barolo. 1967 was the first vintage in which this iconic wine was produced. The first vintages of this wine were aged in local oak botti, with Angelo Gaja only later switching to elevage in French oak barrels. On the 2007. "The nose of plums, strawberries and flowers come out vividly to almost perfection. It follows through to a full body with firm and tight tannins. Finish is full of hazelnuts and chocolate. Intense and long. Salty finish. The depth and intensity is amazing yet it`s refined and so polished. Leaves me spellbound. Better after 2015." James Suckling, 2012

Red-ruby. Black cherry, graphite and sexy nutty oak on the nose. Rich, ripe, sweet and deep but the most closed of this trio of 2007s today, even a bit youthfully musclebound. Most impressive for its breadth today. Finishes very long, with a fine dusting of tannins.Stephen Tanzer1st November 2009

From Turin to Tuscany

The Gaja Winery was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja and has been owned and operated by five generations of the Gaja family. One of Italy’s most renowned and dynamic wineries, Gaja first established its world-class reputation with the powerful reds it produced in the region of Piemonte in Northwestern Italy.

A key figure was Angelo Gaja, who took over the running of the estate in 1970 and sought to showcase the best that the Nebbiolo grape could produce with stellar Barolo and Barbaresco wines. The estate produces unique white wines too, such as the marvellous single varietal Sauvignon Blanc, Alteni di Brassica.

Gaja is also a leading name in Tuscany, having diversified into the production of Brunello and Super Tuscan wines. The Gaja family have owned the Pieve Santa Restituta estate since 1994 from which they produce two single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino wines, Rennina and Sugarille. In 1996, Angelo Gaja purchased the Ca’Marcanda estate in Bolgheri.
