A blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sauvignon Gris and 5% Sémillon aged 12 months on the lees with bâtonnage in barrels (50% new). In the words of the winemaker, Fabien Teitgen, "This wine is a lovely pale-yellow colour. The nose is very expressive, revealing very fresh citrus (grapefruit) notes, alongside ripe yellow fruit (peach, apricot, mango), as well as floral and spicy overtones (elderflower, star anise) coming to the fore, enhancing aromatic complexity. Starts out tight on the palate, becoming concentrated, powerful and rich. The overall impression is a polished wine with wonderful acidity. It has great length, underscored by superb balance between acidity and concentration, and a very soft texture. Yellow fruit and citrus aromas follow through to the palate, underpinned by incredibly complex spices and white flower notes."
Smith Haut Lafitte sets the pace with dry whites in Pessac Léognan, one of the handful of truly brilliant examples of this style that is sure to age well, and deepen in character as it does so. Expect gunsmoke and flint on the opening beats, along with vibrant green apple, citrus and white peach fruits. Structured, succulent, excellent quality. Same score as the last time I tasted it, but I am extending the drinking window, because this have all you need for ageing. 50% new oak. 55% of overall production.Jane Anson27th June 2023

The 2019 Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc is a blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sauvignon Gris, and 5% Semillon. On swirling, evocative notes of Bosc pears, ripe apples, and honeysuckle emerge, followed by wafts of yuzu and crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate is multi-layered and intense, with exciting tension and fantastic length.Lisa Perrotti-Brown1st May 2023

The 2019 Smith Haut-Lafitte Blanc has a taut and focused bouquet with mineral-rich citrus fruit that gains intensity with aeration. The palate is well-balanced with fine acidity, quite intense with Clementine, orange rind and a touch of spice. Lots of extract on the finish with impressive length. Quite delicious. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Neal Martin1st February 2023

Château Smith Haut Lafitte has a long and prestigious history and, since it was acquired by the Cathiard family in 1990, has garnered a reputation as one of the finest producers in Pessac-Léognan. Certified organic since 2019, the estate produces both red and white wines, in addition to a second wine, Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte.
With an estate spanning 80ha, seven red and white grape varieties are planted, namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc for reds and Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris for whites. The red wines are generous and juicy, boasting wonderful ageability (and with less oak-dominance from 2010 onwards), whilst the whites offer both superb value and impeccable quality.
