Château Smith Haut Lafitte 1995 is a significant red Bordeaux hailing from Pessac-Léognan. The 1995 vintage is marked by ideal growing conditions, particularly beneficial for the Left Bank. This wine comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with small proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wine displays a deep ruby hue and layered aromas including blackcurrant, earthy notes and hints of tobacco. Notably, Château Smith Haut Lafitte is recognised for its commitment to biodynamic farming practices, enhancing both the quality and expression of its wines.

Very good deep red. Warm, inviting aromas of plums, hot bricks, leather and spice. Lush and expansive in the mouth, with smoke and plum flavors. Subtle flavor really expands on the finish. Tannins are quite suave. A lovely drink.Stephen Tanzer1st May 1998

Organic Winemaking in Pessac-Léognan

Château Smith Haut Lafitte has a long and prestigious history and, since it was acquired by the Cathiard family in 1990, has garnered a reputation as one of the finest producers in Pessac-Léognan. Certified organic since 2019, the estate produces both red and white wines, in addition to a second wine, Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte.

With an estate spanning 80ha, seven red and white grape varieties are planted, namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc for reds and Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris for whites. The red wines are generous and juicy, boasting wonderful ageability (and with less oak-dominance from 2010 onwards), whilst the whites offer both superb value and impeccable quality.
