Based in the village of Vosne-Romanée, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious wine producers in the world. Unlike other great Burgundy estates, Romanée-Conti’s strategy has always been to focus on a small number of grand cru vineyards, such as Richebourg, where DRC owns a 3.51-hectare plot. This release is from the 2007 vintage and available here in a splendid magnum bottle. On the nose, expect black cherries, cinnamon, nutmeg, tobacco and a touch of charcoal. The palate is beautifully complex, including notes of tart red and black cherries, fresh raspberries and spice box, all wrapped up in smooth tannins.

The 2007 Richebourg Grand Cru is a bit of a comedown after the '04. It looks more mature than '04 for a start. It begins well with an attractive nose, a mixture of red and black fruit, iris flower and a subtle estuarine scent. Modest delineation. The palate lets it down, light and meagre for a Richebourg, comparatively simple with tart red fruit. It attenuates towards the finish that feel a little dry, especially after the '00 and '04. Keep expectations modest. Tasted at the Richebourg vertical dinner in Taipei. Neal Martin17th June 2025
