Originally founded in 1856 by Alexandre Louis Pommery and Narcisse Greno, Pommery is one of the most established grandes marques. For a short time, Pommery was part of LVMH, but it’s currently owned by the Vranken-Pommery Monopole Group since 2002. This is the 2000 vintage rosé of its prestige cuvée, a rich and silky champagne, brimming with wild strawberries, complemented by crisp apple notes.

Light pink with an orange hue. Lively strawberry, blood orange and mineral aromas are underscored by a toasty, gently leesy quality. Gains a floral component with air and offers gently sweet red berry and orchard fruit flavors and a hint of bitter citrus zest. Spreads out on the finish, which echoes the blood orange note and lingers with good, dusty, mineral-driven persistence. (I also retasted the 1999 Grand Cru Brut and found a creamy, floral character on display, with the mineral elements starting to recede. It is still youthful but can be enjoyed now.)Josh Raynolds1st November 2009
