Champagne Blend
Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier
Champagne blends are most often based on the three core grape varieties of France's most renowned sparkling wine region - Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. While this combination of varietals was originated and perfected in France it has since been adopted globally - from South America to England and on to Australia and New Zealand. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are most often the stars of the blend, representing much higher percentages than Pinot Meunier, which plays a supporting role. Champagne blend wines are most often produced using methode traditionnelle technique, again perfected in France. To achieve a sparkling wine, a secondary fermentation is initiated in the bottle and the resulting carbon dioxide trapped inside.
